Start in Kingsport at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium, where fall gives the whole experience a seasonal lift. The trails are manageable for all ages, the native animal habitats, wolves, bobcats, river otters, and raptors, hold attention across age groups, and the Fox Den Playground offers accessible outdoor adventure for kids and adults of all abilities. On weekends, planetarium shows run throughout the day and are a reliable crowd-pleaser for families. Budget a solid two hours here and you'll leave without anyone feeling rushed.

From Bays Mountain, head into downtown Kingsport. Take a spin on the Kingsport Carousel, a one-of-a-kind community landmark built by more than 300 volunteers who hand-carved and painted 32 wooden animals on a refurbished 1956 frame. At just a dollar a ride, it's one of the most charming and affordable stops in Sullivan County. Grab lunch nearby and let the kids work off some energy before the next leg.

 

 

In the afternoon, make your way to The Stickley Farm in Bluff City. Open from late September through early November, the farm's fall season is built around its legendary corn maze, hayrides, zip lines, inflatables, petting zoo, and haunted attraction after dark. It's a complete afternoon for families with children of all ages and one of the most distinctive fall experiences in Sullivan County.

Close the day on State Street in downtown Bristol. The Bristol sign straddles the state line and is one of the most photographed spots in the region, a fun, memorable photo moment that lands with extra novelty for kids. Walk State Street, browse the shops at The Local Merchants on State, and grab dinner before heading home.
