Spring Itinerary #1

The Line & The Legacy

Start your day in Historic Blountville, where you can walk around the Sullivan County Courthouse and visit the Old Deery Inn, a longtime landmark just east of the courthouse. Since Blountville has served as the county seat since 1779, this is one of the best places to begin if you want to experience where Sullivan County’s story starts. You can also research the county’s history just beside the Courthouse at the Department of Archives.

From there, head to Rocky Mount State Historic Site in Piney Flats. Spring is a great time to visit because the historic site feels especially alive, with living-history interpretation, heritage animals, and gardens coming back into season. The site is open for historic tours Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., so it works well as a late-morning stop.

After your visit, make your way to Bluff City for a quieter small-town feel. If you want a coffee break, South Fork Coffee is a fun local pick, and the Bluff City Pavilion and Boardwalk on Boone Lake gives you an easy place to stretch your legs and enjoy the water before moving on. And, if you’re in Bluff City during the evening, a stop by neighboring South Fork Taphouse is a must for local music and brews.

Spend the rest of the afternoon in downtown Bristol. Start at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, where you can dig into the story of the 1927 Bristol Sessions, then browse The Local Merchants on State for regional makers and one-of-a-kind finds, alongside a variety of other downtown shops and eateries.
